The SIGMA DELTA PHI (ZETA CHAPTER), University of the Philippines was founded through the initiative of Mrs. Adeline C. Stevens, Chairman of the National Advisory Board, on Feb. 24, 1931. The Mother Chapter i located in the University of Michigan.

The first chapter members were Mrs. Alicia Palma-Bautista, Miss Lourdes Paredes, Miss Gloria G. Lucero, and the late Mrs. Catalina S. Manguerra.

The purpose of the sorority is to form a strong bond among the women interested in speech and allied arts of the various Universities; to form a strong link between the Universities and their former students; to promote social and intellectual intercourse among its members and to cultivate a closer bond of friendship. It is an exclusive upper classmen sorority.

During the first two years and a half of its existence the SIGMA DELTA PHI grew rapidly in activity and numbers. Its development and success maybe credited to the generous support of all its members. At its meetings, social activities were combined with vocational activities.  Over the years, the sorority produced numerous musicals and plays, concerts, and other campus-based events.

The policy of expansion of the SIGMA DELTA PHI is progressive, yet embodies a conservative spirit of careful selection and supervision. It is the sincere hope of the sorority that it will maintain its established position as a powerful and progressive organization on the University campus.
